Pubic lice are usually transmitted by sexual contact. These small parasites cause itching and appear as small freckles. Watched closely, especially in a bath, movement may be seen and the tell-tale sign of small white eggs will be found at the base of the pubic hairs stuck on with a remarkably tenacious glue. Raising a louse with tweezers will cause a very small pin-prick of blood.
Topical, orthodox preparations are effective and need to be applied to the affected area including the lower abdomen, thighs and hairs around the anus, then covered by underwear and left on overnight. Repeat this process one week later.
