This heavy-cropping cane fruit is a cross between a blackberry and a raspberry. The fruit, which is double the size of a raspberry and red in colour, ripens in August. Stakes are needed for support, and planting should be done in autumn or spring, on the lines explained in the section THE ABC OF PLANTING. Fruited shoots should be cut out in autumn and strong young ones of the same year’s growth be tied up in their place – for fruiting the following year.
