The turnip is a hardy biennial of the cruciferae family, and was one of the first vegetables to be cultivated by man. It
has a white bulbous root, tinged with green and a smooth, leafy green top. It is prepared and cooked in the same way as SWEDE , although young, small turnips may be cooked whole.
Turnip tops may also be eaten, and they are generally prepared and cooked in the same way as CABBAGE.
