When it is desired to sell a house, three courses are open : (a) to put the whole matter into the hands of a reputable house agent, preferably in your own district, who will negotiate the whole business, charging a commission on the sale ; (b) by advertisement in the press; aud (c) by means of a notice board outside the premises notifying the sale. The last two methods are usually resorted to together.

When a prospective purchaser has inspected the premises, and expressed his willingness to complete the purchase, it is usual for him to pay a certain percentage as a deposit or an option. It is then necessary to let further negotiations be dealt with by the solicitors on either side, who will prepare the deeds of transfer and complete the sale.

The seller, of course, must be able to produce an Abstract of Title, showing his right and authority to dispose of the property.
