Swelling of the lower limbs that is not related to some kind of pathology can be caused by a Vitamin C deficiency.

Eat lots of Vitamin C-rich fruits and vegetables: gooseberries, lemon, oranges, grapefruit, kiwis, cauliflower, green peppers, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, potatoes and parsley.

Edema (swelling caused by water retention) in the lower limbs, as well as under the eyes, may be due to excess salt, with the possible risk of high blood pressure.

To improve elimination, eat more of the following foods (or use one or other for a cure): chervil, cabbage, onions, parsley, grapes. You can also try drinking raw asparagus juice.

Apricots are rich in potassium, and effective for combating oedema.

Note that remaining in a standing position for long periods of time, and direct exposure to sunlight, can both aggravate oedema.

To combat the problem, make sure to get enough exercise: speed walking, swimming, yoga, cross-country skiing, aerobics, etc. are all excellent forms of exercise. Also watch your posture, making sure your spine is straight.
