The condition of your hair and nails is a good indication of your internal organic balance, inevitably reflecting any vitamin or mineral deficiency you may have developed.

Vitamin E is especially important for keeping hair and nails healthy. Vitamin E is also a powerful antioxidant that protects cells and tissues, and helps slow down the aging process.

Good sources of Vitamin E include wheat germ, hazelnuts and almonds, green leafy vegetables (especially lettuce and spinach), whole grains, cod liver oil, etc. If you use a lot of polyunsaturated vegetable oil (corn, sunflower seed, peanut, etc.) you should increase your intake of Vitamin E.

Note that analysis of brittle hair often reveals deficiencies of silica, and less frequently of iron and zinc.
