An easy-to-prepare supper dish for the family, Nouilles au Gratin (nwee oh gra-tan), could be served zoith French beans and a tomato salad.
1 lb. noodles, cooked, drained and kept hot
2 oz. butter, cut into small pieces
1 oz. Parmesan cheese, grated
2 oz. Gruyere cheese, grated
3 tablespoons dry white breadcrumbs
½ teaspoon black pepper
Preheat the grill to high.
Place the noodles in a heatproof serving dish. Stir in half the butter. Sprinkle the grated cheeses, breadcrumbs and pepper over the noodles. Dot the top of the dish with the remaining butter.
Place the dish under the grill and grill for 3 to 4 minutes or until the cheeses have melted and the top is a light golden brown.
Remove the dish from under the heat and serve immediately.
