Loquat

The loquat is the fruit of a subtropical tree related to the apple. It is a native of China but grows equally well in Japan, in the subtropical areas of India, and in some Mediterranean countries.

The loquat is small (1- to 3-inches in length), yellowish-orange in colour and egg-shaped. The juicy orange-coloured flesh has a delightfully fresh tart flavour.

The loquat is also known as the Japanese medlar or plum.
