Lichen sclerosus

Skin disorder usually affecting the vulva in women, but also the groin and anus. The skin of the labia is pale, white and thin. The skin pigment has disappeared locally, and sometimes the entrance to the vagina is constricted. The principal discomfort is itching, which can be severe, and there may be pain during sexual intercourse and when urinating. There is no known cause. Women suffering from the condition are more prone to cancer of the vagina, and thus patients should undergo regular tests. So far no therapy has been found which provides a real cure.
