Flecks of pigment in the face, particularly in patients with a fair skin, usually on the cheeks and nose, but possibly also all over the face and arms as well. Redheads generally have more freckles than other people, because pigmentation is different for them. It is not possible to remove freckles, only to make them less conspicuous. It is important to protect the skin against ultraviolet light with a suntan cream with a high protection factor. Freckles can be made somewhat paler with weak acids such as lemon juice.
