FEVER

A fever, the result of a high temperature (over 38°C/ 100.4°F) which makes you sweat or shiver, can be a symptom of any one of several illnesses, but is usually a sign that your body is fighting infection. Coughs, colds and other infections are often accompanied by aches, pains and feverishness.

To help reduce a fever, take the recommended dose of aspirin, ibuprofen or paracetamol – paracetamol for children . Drink plenty of cold, alcohol-free fluids. Sponging the body with tepid water can be helpful in cases of high fever – but when the temperature is as high as 40°C/103°F, at least phone your doctor for advice.
