Dissimulation

Refusal to recognize or making light of something of which the patient is perfectly well aware, especially in the realm of health. Physical complaints (pain) may be ignored, as may feelings (fear or anger) or illness (acting as if nothing were wrong). Alcoholics do it with respect to their memory difficulties (confabulation), and sufferers from anorexia nervosa with respect to their poor physical condition.
