A ptosis is a prolapse or ‘falling down’ of an organ or part of an organ. It is generally applied to the drooping of the upper eyelid. This usually occurs because of damage or inflammation to the nerve . In one particular condition known as Horner’s syndrome, the eyelid droops, the eye appears sunken and the pupil constricts.
Damage to the neuromuscular junction in rare conditions such as myasthenia gravis needs to be considered, although ptosis may simply be a result of ageing.
Ayurvedic facial massage techniques may benefit the condition.
Acupuncture may have a profound effect. The topmost acupuncture point for the bladder rests by the eyelid and bladder energy weakness may be responsible.
