Bananas baked with bread and custard is simple dessert that children will love.
1 teaspoon butter
6 thin slices buttered bread
2 oz. raisins pint milk whole eggs plus
2 tablespoons soft brown sugar
½ teaspoon grated nutmeg
Grease a medium-sized baking dish with the butter. Peel the bananas and slice into rounds. Halve the bread slices. Put the layers of the bread, bananas and raisins in the baking dish, ending with a layer of bread.
In a small pan heat the milk over moderate heat. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, beat the eggs, egg yolks and sugar together. Slowly pour in the milk, stirring continuously. Pour the milk-egg mixture into the baking dish and leave to stand for 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to fairly hot 375 °F (Gas Mark 5, 190°C).
Dust the top of the pudding with the nutmeg and bake in the oven for 30 minutes. Serve hot or cold.
