Diabetic drugs should only be taken under the guidance of a qualified doctor, and even then only after an original prescription by a hospital specialist. The two forms of diabetic drug either stimulate the cells in the pancreas, called the islets of Langerhans, to produce insulin or affect cells generally and encourage the membranes to let more glucose in.

It is advisable to establish whether diabetes can be controlled through diet and other naturopathic methods, but if not the use of these drugs is definitely preferable to uncontrolled or high levels of glucose in the bloodstream.
