Whiskey Sour

One of the most famous of American cocktails, Whiskey Sour is a delightfully refreshing drink. Although Bourbon is traditionally used, Scotch whisky may be substituted – in which case the purists call the drink Scotch Sour! The ingredients listed below produce a very strong, sow-drink – if you wish to weaken and sweeten it slightly add a tablespoon of water and another

½ teaspoon of sugar.

2 tablespoons lemon juice

3 fl. oz. Bourbon whiskey

1½ teaspoons castor sugar

4 ice cubes

1 maraschino cherry

1 orange slice

Place the lemon juice, whiskey and sugar in a cocktail shaker and, using a long-handled spoon, stir until the sugar has dissolved. Add the ice cubes, cover and shake briskly for 30 seconds.

Pour the mixture into a chilled medium-sized cocktail glass and decorate with the cherry and orange slice. Serve at once.
