Vol-au-vent (voll-oh-vaun) is a light puff pastry case which is shaped into an oval, square or round and filled with a savoury mixture and a suitable creamy sauce. Vol-au-vent is usually served as a main course, with an accompanying vegetable or salad.

Small vol-au-vent pastry cases, known as BOUCHEES, are usually served as hors d’oeuvre.
