The salmon trout is a saltwater fish of the TROUT family and is no relation to salmon. It docs, however, resemble an immature salmon, both in appearance and flavour, and weighs between 2 and 6 pounds. Like salmon, it may be eaten hot or cold, and any recipe for SALMON is suitable for salmon trout, using the same cooking times and methods.
Salmon trout is sometimes known as sea trout, phinook and gillaroo, and in the United States the name salmon trout is also used to describe the CHAR or lake trout.
Salmon trout is found in all countries bordering on the Atlantic north of latitude 40°N and is in season from March to August.
