Add cut-outs of leaves to torn parts of curtains; the effect is very pretty.
When edges or hems are frayed, make an eight-inch hem of a floral contrasting material, and run a four-inch hem of the same floral material up the sides of the curtains.
And quite often the best pans of two sets of old curtains can be used together to make one good set. When curtains shrink in washing, add gay hems of contrasting materials.
