Plantain is a tropical fruit which greatly resembles the BANANA in appearance. (It is, in fact, sometimes known as the cooking banana.) Plantain is slightly larger, has coarser flesh and a higher starch content than the banana.
Plantain is grown in many tropical regions of the world, including the West Indies, South America, Africa and India.
Plantain may be boiled, fried or baked and may be served as a vegetable or, depending on how ripe it is, as a dessert.
