Pilaff, pilau or pulao as it is sometimes called, is a savoury rice dish which originated in the East.
Pilaff is usually cooked with meat, poultry, fish or shellfish, although some-times dried fruit, nuts and vegetables are substituted or added. The rice may be spiced with ginger, turmeric or saffron.
A pilaff may be served on its own accompanied by salads, chutneys and relishes, or as an accompaniment to roast meat or poultry.
