A Vitamin B12 deficiency produces pernicious anaemia, also called Biermer’s disease, characterized by three main symptoms:
– anaemia and resulting problems
– digestive problems (diarrhoea, anorexia)
– neurological problems (paresthesis and other disorders).
Main sources of Vitamin B12 are:
– liver, kidney, meat
– brewer’s yeast
– egg yolk
– milk and dairy products
– oysters
Vegetables contain no Vitamin B12, which is why a strictly vegetarian (vegan) diet, containing no animal products whatsoever (no eggs, butter, milk, etc.) can be dangerous.
