Bleeding gums can be caused by a Vitamin C deficiency. Vitamin C is found in its natural state in most fruit, especially citrus fruit, kiwis, melon and berries, as well as in many vegetables: tomatoes, cabbage, green leafy vegetables, green peppers, Brussels sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower.
Getting enough Vitamin C is extremely important for keeping teeth and gums healthy. It also plays an essential role in the formation of bones and conjunctive tissue, and maintaining cellular structure.
Treat bleeding gums with fresh orange, grapefruit or carrot juice. The minimum daily requirement is about 70 milligrams for both children and adults.
