Mung Bean

The mung bean, or green gram as it is sometimes called, is probably native to India, although it is now cultivated in the tropical areas of Asia, Africa and America. It is a pod bean, each pod usually containing about 15 green, brown or mottled seeds, and it is usually eaten as a pulse or ground into fine meal.

In parts of China and the United States the seeds of the mung bean are sometimes germinated to produce bean sprouts.
