Mode, a la

A la Mode (ah lah mohd), literally ‘in the current style’, is a French term used to describe cuts of meat, for example beef, which are braised in their own juices and sometimes stock or wine.

In the United States, the term is used for pies and cakes to which ice-cream is added as a garnish. Apple Pie a la Mode is a favourite dessert.
