A famous American cocktail, Manhattan Cocktail is made with vermouth and rye whisky. There are two variations of the cocktail – Manhattan Dry, made with French, or dry, vermouth and, as in this recipe, Manhattan Sweet, made with Italian, or szoeet, vermouth.
Recipes differ – some increase the proportion of whisky – hut generally a jigger of vermouth and a jigger of whisky are allowedfor one cocktail.
Additions such as cracked ice, cocktail cherries and a dash of bitters are sometimes included, but this is a matter of personal taste.
3 fl. oz. Italian vermouth
3 fl. oz. rye whisky
Pour the vermouth and whisky into a chilled cocktail shaker and screw on the lid firmly. Shake vigorously for a few seconds.
Pour the cocktail into 2 chilled cocktail glasses and serve immediately.
