Kirschen mit Eiskrem – A delectable end to the perfect meal, Kirschen mit Eiskrem (keer-shen mitt ice-krem) is easy to prepare.

1 lb. fresh cherries, washed and stoned

6 fl. oz. dry red wine

3 tablespoons sugar

½ teaspoon vanilla essence

1 pint vanilla ice-cream

In a medium-sized, shallow bowl, com-bine the cherries with the wine, sugar and vanilla, stirring until the ingredients are well mixed. Set aside to marinate, basting occasionally, for 1 hour.

Divide the cherry mixture equally among four sundae glasses. With an ice-cream scoop or large spoon, spoon three scoops of vanilla ice-cream into each glass. Serve at once.
