The juneberry is a North American shrub of the amelanchier genus. Related to the shadbush, serviceberry and sugarberry, it bears a small, dark purple fruit with a sweet, juicy flesh. The juneberry played an important part, both fresh and dried, in the diet of early explorers, trappers and American Indians.

A few varieties with larger fruits are now cultivated and used in pies, tarts and jellies.
