Javanese Steak

Impressive in its subtle simplicity, Javanese Steak is a highly original dish for a dinner party. Serve the steaks with a refreshing cucumber salad and rice or boiled new potatoes.

1 tablespoon coriander seeds, crushed

4 peppercorns, crushed

2 garlic cloves, crushed

4 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons white wine vinegar

½ teaspoon salt

4 fillet steaks, approximately

2-inches thick

In a small bowl, combine the coriander, peppercorns, garlic, soy sauce, vinegar and salt and mix well.

Place the steaks in a shallow dish and pour the coriander mixture over them.

Leave the steaks to marinate for 1 hour, basting occasionally.

Preheat the grill to high.

Remove the steaks from the dish and place them on a rack under the grill . Grill for 4 to 8 minutes on each side, depending on whether you like your steaks rare, medium or well done.

Remove the steaks from the heat and serve at once.
