Plant in March in a light sandy loam, setting the bulbs 3-in. Deep and 4-in. Apart. They like a sunny, well-drained situation, and the foot of a south wall is admirable. Lift in September and store in sand until planting time. Mulch the surface with cow manure in April.
Increase by offsets removed from the old bulbs and treat as such. These bulbs may also be grown as pot plants.
The best varieties to grow in the amateurs garden are:
I. Ledebouri, violet-blue.
J. Pallasii, violet-blue, May-June. 1 ½ ft.
