Israeli Wines

The ancient Israelites were enthusiastic wine-makers (Noah carried wine in the Ark) and their modern descendants are now seeking to improve upon and extend this viticultural heritage.

At the moment, most Israeli table wines are white and rather sweet, a reflection both of climatic conditions and local taste. There are signs, however, that the industry is broadening its range – indeed, some of the newer vineyards are already producing drier, smoother wines.

Israel also produces fortified wines, such as sherry and port, although these are rarely exported.
