Iron

Iron is an essential part of haemoglobin, the substance which gives the red colour to blood. It is necessary for everyone to have a daily intake of iron but particularly vital for women, as a shortage of iron can lead to anaemia.

Foods richest in iron are meat, especially liver, kidneys and heart, eggs, wholemeal bread and cereals, green vegetables and dried fruit.
