Health Benefits of Lettuce

– Lettuce is rich in pro-Vitamin A and iron that can be easily assimilated since it contains no oxalic acid.

– A few lettuce leaves, added to salads, soothes nerves and helps persons with insomnia get to sleep.

– Mildly choleretic (stimulating bile secretions) and diuretic, lettuce has a beneficial effect on the liver. It’s best to eat lettuce at the start of meals instead of after your main course.

– A study conducted in New Jersey showed that male smokers and ex smokers who eat green vegetables like lettuce, spinach and broccoli every day are only half as likely to develop cancer than those who eat green vegetables only three times a week. The obvious conclusion is that lettuce contains anti-carcinogenic substances.
