Red Valerian. (C. ruber, G. albus.) This is a good border plant, and can also be grown in the wild garden. It will thrive on chalky or limestone soil. Can be easily raised from seed sown in spring, or increased by division of roots in spring. The flowers are red or white, on neat bushy plant3, and are effective when massed. June to September. Height 2-3 ft.
