Skin condition generally free from problems, more common in men, but also occurring in women. A reddish-brown area appears in moist areas such as the genital area, around the anus or between the toes; the skin rubs off in scales. The patch rarely spreads, and is not usually itchy. The condition is caused by a bacterium, although much like a fungus disease. The bacterium produces a substance which fluoresces brick red under ultraviolet light, a phenomenon that can be used to confirm diagnosis. Treatment is usually exclusively with a cream. If all the affected areas are thoroughly treated, the condition does not usually recur.
