Debts for Household Necessaries

It has long been an axiom with English jurists that all things are presumed to be done rightly, and so strongly is this principle interwoven into the texture of our law that a reputed wife, a woman living with a man to whom she is not married as his wife to all outward appearances, is presumed to have some of the chief privileges of a legal wife, and if she contract debts for household necessaries the man is responsible in the same way as if he were legally married to her.
