A Chapon (shah-pon) or chapon a Vail is a crust or slice of bread rubbed with garlic and seasoned with oil and vinegar.

Tossed into a salad, particularly of chicory, the chapon gives it a garlic flavour. This is especially used in Southern

French cookery.
