These little tailless beasts were formerly known as Guinea Pigs. In their general mode of living, they much resemble the rabbit.
They should, however, be given fresh water to drink twice a day, and a few oats once. Cavies are very partial to green grass; it is wise, therefore, in the dry summer, to place a hutch over them on the lawns and let them nibble for themselves. They should be given a bed of soft hay or straw. Always remember that Cavies must be kept clean, dry and warm.
