Cassava

This plant is known as cassava in the West Indies, manioc in some parts of South America and Africa, and yucca in other

regions. It is native to South America, and Brazil is the largest producer.

Cassava produces a food which is a staple of the diet of millions of people in many parts of the tropics. It is, however, of little value as a protein food and protein deficiency is a danger if the cassava is not accompanied by other protein

foods.
