Cantaloup

This is a variety of melon which, it is believed, was first grown in Europe in the seventeenth century at Cantalupo, near

Rome. A cantaloup is round with a rough, ribbed warty skin. The flesh, which can vary in colour from deep orange to

pinkish-yellow to a pale green, is sweet, juicy and of excellent flavour.
