The fruit of a bush which has a long rambling growth, the blackberry is also known as bramble. It grows extensively, both wild and cultivated, in the temperate zones of the northern hemisphere. Since blackberries spoil rapidly, they should be cooked or eaten the day they are picked. Sweet and juicy, blackberries are a good source of vitamin C.
Ripe blackberries are good eaten raw with sugar and cream. In cooking they are often combined with apples. Black-berries are used in jelly, jam, pies and puddings.
