Predatory, pike-like fish, barracuda inhabit tropical and semi-tropical seas. They range in size from 3 to 10 feet and have long, pointed jaws filled with razor-sharp teeth. The giant pike and the great barracuda, found in the South Pacific, are reputed to be the most vicious and their attacks on swimmers are often mistakenly attributed to sharks. The barracuda is an excellent big-game fish because of its stamina and fighting spirit. It is also fished com-mercially and its meat sold both fresh and canned.
