Influenza is most commonly abbreviated to the word ‘Flu’. There are a variety of symptoms, ranging from mild to severe, all created by specific viruses.
The symptoms range from head and eye aches, sore throats, coughs (dry or productive), glandular swelling and pains that can often create abdominal pains in children, aching limbs, lethargy, malaise and depression. Secondary infection from a bacteria is not uncommon and is often the cause of serious complications especially in the elderly, very young or those who are immuno-compromised.
The flu generally lasts 4-5 days, as opposed to a cold that can linger for 10 days or more. This often surprises people, who think that flu is longer lasting.
Rest, preferably in bed.
Any underlying illness may be worsened by an influenza virus and your health practitioner should be contacted if you are asthmatic, diabetic or carrying the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
The following supplements should be started for each foot of height in divided doses: beta-carotene (2mg), vitamin B complex (lOmg) taken with breakfast only and vitamin C (Ig).
