This is a chronic disease due to excessive secretion of growth hormone by the pituitary gland. It causes overgrowth of bone and tissues but has a particular effect on the hands, feet, face and head. It is a rare condition and does not particularly jeopardize longevity although specific problems caused by moving an excessively large frame around may be apparent as muscular strains, including that on the heart muscle.
The reason for excess production needs to be eliminated. Consult an endocrinologist.
Complementary treatment is dependent upon any particular problems associated with acromegaly.
