Achimenes

Those are tuberous-rooted plants with hairy leaves and various coloured flowers, but mostly in shades of blue, red and white. They are frequently grown in hanging baskets in a compost of loam, leaf-mould and sand.

Plant in February, setting five or six tubers 1 inch deep in 5- or 6-inch pots. Place them in a temperature of 55°-60°. When the flowers have faded, the rhizomes should be lifted and stored in a cold frame until planting time.
